Upon his arraignment before Chief Magistrate, Chinelo Odili, the defendant pleaded not guilty to a one count charge bordering on stealing against him.
Our correspondent who monitored the proceedings in court reports that the prosecution earlier objected to the defendant’s bail application on the ground that he (Sunday) had refused to make available, the car he allegedly bought with his company’s money.
In charge number: PMC/275c/2020, the Rivers State Police Command said: “That you William Sunday of 37yrs old on the 24th day of December, 2019 to 15th day of January, 2020 did steal N3,263,925, belonging to Hart G Associates LTD at Dr Peter Odili Road, Port Harcourt.”
A statement made by the company’s accountant, Akusueze Chinedu at the police station said that, “he (Sunday) took a product worth of the aforementioned amount.
“He (the defendant) brought a cheque worth N2million from Sky Bank which my boss rejected as the cheque was no longer valid for use.
“My company management therefore requested that we bring him (Sunday) to the police station in order to make him pay the stated sum.”
Not upholding the prosecution’s bail objection, the court however granted bail to the defendant with the sum of N1million and two sureties in like sum before adjourning the case till March 4, 2020 for hearing.
