The bodies of the two missing girls that were declared missing during the Sunday’s boat capsize along Okrika-Marine Base waterway have been recovered by divers on Tuesday morning.
The deceased identified as Destiny Alamina and Igowari Alamina were declared missing after another 22 passengers on the boat en route Port Harcourt from Okrika were rescued on sunday.
A similar capsize on the 28th July along the Bakana waterway led to the death of Joe Blankson and 9 others, thereby raising questions as to the safety of water travel in Rivers state
The chairman of Okrika local government area, Philimoor Iwoloma Kingoli confirmed the development to theportcitynews correspondent in Port-Harcourt.
He said the council has set up a committee to investigate what led to the accident and also to ensure that boat operators maintain safety standards before boarding.
The Okrika council boss, however, called on the people and passengers to always ensure their life vests are put on to avert any future occurrences in the area.
