The Nigeria Bar Association NBA Port Harcourt branch has inaugurated a new executive.
The New Executive of NBA Port Harcourt Branch is headed by Prince Nyechere.
Prince Nyechere defeated David Jaja in an online election to become the new chairman of NBA Port Harcourt Branch.
Prince Nyechere after his swearing-in ceremony promised to create a human right desk to assist human rights victims in Rivers State.
Prince Nyechere said the NBA will seek justice and equity for the vulnerable and less privileged ones in the state.
He also promised to boost the capacity of lawyers in the branch to meet up with the demands of modern-day legal practice.
”As a branch, we will be deliberate in fighting for the public interest of especially the less privileged and the vulnerable. We will have a proactive and responsive human right desk. We will have a well structured pro-bono service that will be used for our public interest litigations and interventions. I want to assure you that the confidence you have placed on us will not be betrayed” he said.
Prince Nyechere also said that he would work for the interest of lawyers in the branch and he also called on his opponents during the election to join hands with him to take NBA Port Harcourt to the next level.
In his speech, the immediate past chairman of NBA, Port Harcourt branch Sylvester Adaka advised members of the association to give the in-coming executive the needed support to excel during their tenure.
He commended the Electoral Committee for conducting a free and fair election that brought-in the new executive.
Sylvester Adaka also thanked the members of NBA Port Harcourt branch for all their support during his days in office.
In his comment, Justice Sobere Biambo while inaugurating the new executive tasked them to uphold the constitution of the NBA.
He also asked them to create an enabling environment for lawyers to thrive in the legal business.
