A Port Harcourt, Rivers State-based lawyer identified as Promise Frank Igwe was on Friday morning killed in what appeared to be an act of assassination.
The victim was shot dead at a bar in Ozuoba Community, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, around 10am, Friday Yawnaija reports.
A source who claimed to have witnessed the incident, but pleaded anonymity, said the unknown gunmen trailed the lawyer to the drinking joint where he was waiting for an undisclosed person before the gunmen arrived the scene.
He said, “We saw them; they were wearing black clothes and one guy now asked them; ‘I hope you people are not coming here to steal. One of them came down and began to shoot.
“Those eating meat and drinking in the bar ran away when they heard the sound of gunshots.”
It was revealed that the bandits took away the man’s mobile phone after killing him while officers from Ozuoba Police Division came in later to evacuate his corpse.
Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of Rivers State Police Command, DSP. Nnmadi Omoni, who gave identity of the victim, noted that full scale investigation has commenced into the killing.
Omoni said: “The victim has been identified as Barrister Promise Frank Igwe from Ogbakri in Emohua LGA. He was shot in a bar this (Friday) morning by four unknown gunmen.
“The four gunmen came to the place in a car and left immediately after they shot the man dead. We have since begun investigation into the incident with a view to apprehending those behind the dastardly act.”
