The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) has reacted to the video making the rounds on social media showing a bulk of Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) allegedly discovered in a drainage system within the Rumuodara axis of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area (LGA).
It was gathered that the PVCs were found by a resident of an estate within the area while cleaning out the drainage.
Reacting to the development, Rivers INEC in a statement, by its Administrative Secretary, Richter Alabraba, said the matter has been communicated to security agencies for investigation.
According to the statement, “The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Rivers State wishes to inform the public that the viral video on the above issue has been reported to the Nigeria Police and other security agencies for investigation and further action.
“The outcome of this investigation will also be made public once concluded.
“The Commission will continue to work with the security agencies and well-meaning Nigerians to preserve the integrity of the Electoral Processes.”
Meanwhile, some residents have called on the commission to ensure that the cards are retrieved and delivered to their owners.
