Unknown gunmen, last week hacked a member of a local vigilante group, ONELGA Security Peace and Advisory Council, popularly known as (OSPAC) operating in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area to death.
This is as another member of the security outfit was beheaded at his home in Omoku Town by gunmen.
The incidents happened on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively, sparking fears that insecurity is gradually creeping back into the area which has seen relative peace since the killing of dreaded gang leader, Don Wanny in 2018 by security agencies.
The killing of Wednesday occurred at about 7pm, at a check point set up by the local vigilante group close to Timber Market.
It was gathered that the vigilante member identified as Chimezie was returning to the town on motorcycle when the gunmen laid an ambush for him at the check point. He, however, mistook them for his colleagues.
It was gathered that when he approached and tried to exchange pleasantries with them, the gunmen who were armed with AK47 rifles opened fire on him. Seeing that the bullets from their gun could not penetrate him, they used an axe to hack and mutilated him.
An eyewitness, Bright Israel, who said he survived the attack at the check point said “It was about past 7 on our way to Omoku at OSPAC checking point, before Omoku junction. An OSPAC officer there was killed by axe because the gun couldn’t enter him, but God manifest him self in the life of his children and protect us”
