Residents of Port Harcourt are reporting a general decrease in electricity supply.
This comes a day after the minister of power, works and housing, Tunde Fashola, said that some states currently enjoy 24 hours power supply.
However, a survey by theportcitynews in and around Port Harcourt suggests Rivers State might likely not be among such states as the state capital is currently underserved.
Areas like Woji which used to have at least 21-hour daily electric supply currently goes days without power.
The same fate affects the GRA area of Nigeria’s oil capital with electricity going off at intervals.
But the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, PHED, blamed it on some equipment that it did not name.
A source disclosed to theportcitynews that the company is currently working round the clock to restore the equipment.
However, residents of Rumuokoro, Mercyland, Rumuosi to Choba say that electricity in their areas has gone from bad to worse.
They claimed that they stay days without even a single flash on their bulbs.
According to them, things became very bad after the new year and they have to rely on generators to power their homes.
The called on PHED officials to look into the matter and restore electricity to the area.
Other areas like NTA road, Mgbuoba also complained of drops in electricity supply, adding that they now rely heavily on generators to power their homes and business premises.
