Disturbed by the poor safety compliance of private fuel depot operators, the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has announced a new safety requirement to prevent fires at the facilities.
Known as Minimum Industry Safety Training for Downstream, the regulator made the announcement during a tour of private depots in Delta State by the Deputy Director & Head, Downstream Monitoring & Regulations, Mrs. Ijeoma Onyeri.
According to her, henceforth compliance with the new safety directive will be a prerequisite for the yearly renewal of operating licences by the operators, warning that DPR will not treat the issue lightly.
