Chieftaincy tussle divides Rivers Community as faceless group claims autonomous

Heavy confusion and violent threats have hit the communities in Omoku in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, following an autonomous claim by a yet to be identified group.

Confirming the crisis to our correspondent, His Royal Highness and Eze Obioha 1 of Omoku, Chief Uche Onwusa said progress has been stalled in Omoku as neither the government nor the oil multinational companies do not know the authentic traditional leadership of Omoku to interface with.

The monarch said: “Right now, there is a faceless group claiming that their communities in Omoku are autonomous, meaning that they are no longer under the traditional authority of Omoku

“They said they have gone to Abuja to secure approval from the federal government to be autonomous and that they will now be operating independently.

“We don’t know how authentic such information is but we believe that a particular group of people wants to manipulate our traditional system to cause trouble.

“In Omoku, we now have divided leadership caused by those operating from the shadows against the constituted authority and that is the crisis we are facing now.

“The progress of Omoku is now stalled and from our findings, the autonomy they are claiming did not come from the government.

“The confusion in Omoku now has made our people to plan their lives with uncertainty and attentions are now being divided in our communities.

“We believe that there are some high-powered group somewhere who are bent on destabilizing the peace and unity of Omoku.

“Definitely arrest will come because they have done a lot of harm to the peace and unity of our communities in Omoku.”
