The Senator representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Magnus Abe, has faulted the Commission of Enquiry to be set up by the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, over the killing of a PDP agent, Dr Ferry Gberegbe, who was shot during the just concluded March 9 gubernatorial and state house of Assembly elections in the State.
Dr Ferry Gberegbe was allegedly shot in the stomach by personnel of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, on Saturday, March 9 in Khana. He died a week later at St Patrick Hospital Port Harcourt.
Governor Wike said during a condolence visit to the family yesterday that he will set up a commission of enquiry to investigate and bring to book the killers of the academic.
But peaking during a condolence visit to the family of the deceased, Senator Abe stated that there was no need for the panel of enquiry because the video of the murder is known to all.
He said “There is no need for a commission of inquiry into the murder of Dr. Ferry Gberege. I have the video of this murder in my phone right here, so what is the commission of inquiry for?
He further called on the governor to direct the commissioner of police to produce those responsible for the act.
According to him, “The Governor should simply direct the commissioner of Police to produce and prosecute the trigger-happy policemen who committed this murder. If the policemen want to name those who sent them, then we will go on from there”
