Anambra: Supplementary election begins at Ihiala, APGA chiefain denied entry

Electoral activities have commenced in some wards in the Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday announced a supplementary election in the Council Area following the non-conduct of the exercise in the area.

The election was declared inconclusive due to the inability of INEC officials to conduct elections in the area due to security challenges.

A total number of 148,000 eligible voters are expected to cast their votes as reports reveal that there is a heavy security presence in and around the area over the scheduled supplementary election.

Meanwhile, a chieftain of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Victor Umeh, who arrived at the LGA headquarters with other party members, was refused entry by the General Officer Commanding 82 Division of the Nigerian Army.

As the election commenced, APGA chieftain, Victor Umeh visited the local government headquarters but was turned back by the security agents.

According to the GOC, it was inappropriate for him to be there.

“You are not supposed to be here,” the GOC said.

APGA is currently in the lead after winning 18 of the State’s local councils.
