Bra Care: 5 things you need to take care of while washing your bra

They are the most important piece of clothing in your wardrobe and definitely the most ‘loved’ ones. Apart from investing greatly in bras that maintain a good shape of breasts, women also spend a lot on aesthetically good looking bras. And it pains a lot when an expensive bra gets withered in a harsh wash cycle, specially the wired and underwired bras. Do you know that if you take care of only 5 simple things, you will be able to maintain your expensive bras better.

Take a look!

1. This is the foremost and important step!

How many times do you find the hooks of your bra broken after a wash cycle? Most of us face this situation almost every other day. The problem is that the hooks of bras get entangled in the small openings inside the washing machine which are designed for the water to gush in. Since the bra gets stretched entwined in other clothes, hooks tend to break. So it is always advisable to hook the backs before putting it in the wash cycle.

2. Let your hands do the work!

Sounds hard and too much work but washing bras with your hands will always give them a longer life. You hands are not as harsh as a washing machine and you can wash them up in just five minutes instead of long cycles. Surely you can put in this much effort for that expensive collection!

3. Bra Washing Bags are important!

You might feel that the online shopping portals advertise only for their sales but have you ever wondered that if a product was invented, there must be a need for it. Bra washing bags are slowly gaining popularity only because they are actually useful. Bras never snag or rust in a wash bag. Invest in one now!

4. Are you using hot water to wash lingerie? You are doing it wrong

General perception is that hot water washes clothes better and also gets rid of the germs. So if you are using hot water to wash your bras, here’s a reality check! Hot water can damage the elastic used in your bra and over a period of time the cloth covering the wires might also wither. Hence, it is advisable to use warm water instead of hot water.

5. Are you using the dryer cycle?

Though it is convenient to dry your bras in the dryer cycle but it also harms the gentle piece of clothing. Most of the bras contain spandex which is averse to heat. Any kind of heat destroys spandex and your bra will lose its elasticity. There is another problem that might occur with wired bras is to the frame which is moulded by applying heat. By throwing it within the drier you’re applying heat while not the form and it’ll lose it’s shape and shorten it’s life.
