10 man Rivers United ‘pegged back’ at home by FC Ifeanyi Ubah”

Rivers United, on Sunday, suffered a set back in their quest to get the three-point lead at home, after playing out a 1-1 draw against the visiting FC Ifeanyi Ubah, in the NPFL match day 11 encounter.

Seka pascal got the first half proceedings on the way for the visitors.

In the 8th minute, FC Ifeanyi Ubah GK Bamba misread Ovoke’s corner, but Osita Chikere’s header was cleared by Wasiu.

13 minutes later, Emeka Ogbugh hit a free kick straight at Bamba from 30 yards.

In the 43rd minute, Pascal Seka’s long-range curler, was saved by Rivers United Goal Keeper Rotimi.

The first half was relatively a dour affair, characterized by heavy downpour at the later part.

Osita Chikere got the second half underway.

5 minutes later, Chikere set up Oche salifu, but Bamba was quick off his line to save.

In the 59th minute, Sunday Rotimi was sent off, reducing the home side to 10 men and a penalty awarded to the visitors after he lunged into Seka Pascal, with Pascal sustaining an injury.

Robert Cole replaced Bernard Ovoke. His first task was to stop the penalty, but Onyekachi Chidume neatly converted it, sending him to the wrong direction.

Rivers United took advantage of the sending off of Sadiq, as Salefu Ochefu turned up with a stunning goal from 18 yards to equalize from an Osita Chikere assist.

The game eventually ended 1-1 after a nervy finish, which saw five additional minutes.

Hollywood’s biggest night is finally here!

Serie A have officially postponed all of it’s fixtures today following the tragic death of Fiorentina’s Davide Astori.

The Italian international was found dead in his hotel room where he was with his team ahead of the Udinese league game, aged just 31.

Sunday’s fixture between Udinese vs. Fiorentina was subsequently canceled, and the Italian top flight have now cancelled the rest of the games which includes the Milan derby.

Today’s seven league games will be rescheduled.

Sky Italia reporting that Italian Players Association head @17tommasihas asked for all matches today to be postponed following the tragic death of David Astori.

There was palpable tension in Ezimuku village, Abatete, in Idemili North local government area of Anambra state on Saturday as one Ifeanyi Oguejiofor, stabbed his father, Mr. Joseph Oguejiofor, to death during a squabble over money.

His compound was deserted with sympathizers hanging around bewildered at the ugly incident.

An eyewitness said that Late Mr Oguejiofor, a businessman, who resides in Onitsha, visited home as his family members were living in the village and on this occasion, he visited as the family has a marriage feast, not knowing that his life will be cut short by his own biological son.

According to the deceased wife, Mrs Josephine Oguejiofor who survived being stabbed to death by the killer, said the suspect-son- has since Friday been demanding money from her and his father and their inability to give him the money immediately turned into a sad event.

The twenty-seven-year-old man who upon killing his father, went to a shrine in front of his father’s house and splashed his blood on the deity.

When contacted the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP, Nkeiruka Nwode said the suspected has been arrested by the command and investigation into the matter has commenced.

Rivers State Government to prosecute Chidi Llyod for attempted murder.

Governor Wike says Dr Chidi Llyod will still face prosecution after the former lawmaker accused the Governor of a ploy to arm a private army using the Neighborhood watch bill.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has stated that Former Majority Leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Mr Chidi Lloyd will still face prosecution for attempted murder.

Speaking during the flag off of the construction of Umueze-Umuogba-Umuokpurukpu-Umueke- Umunju-Umuellechi-Eberi road in Omuma LGA, Governor Wike said that Rivers State Government will prosecute Mr. Lloyd under a different Law.

Governor Wike’s response came after the former lawmaker accused the Governor of a ploy to arm a private army using the Neighborhood watch corps bill on View Point, Rythm 93.7 on Saturday, 3rd March 2018;

“Neighbourhood watch as proposed by the Rivers State government, I have no issues with it but the provisions therein… it won’t bring about peace but exacerbate it. People should study the provisions contained in the neighborhood watch bill. That was how Bakassi started. We cannot afford to make our kids glorified arm bandits.

” You cannot give me wine in a poisoned chalice… People calling in to call me a criminal and a murderer, I keep saying it that what happened in the house was cause and effect.

“I have long apologized to my brother and the Rivers State government has long withdrawn the case, why call me names? notwithstanding, I will still speak out” the lawmaker said.

However, the governor in his speech said: “Chidi Lloyd will be charged to court under a different law. He cannot escape justice”.

It will be recalled that the Former Majority Leader was dragged to court by the present Rivers State Government for attempting to murder a State Lawmaker, Mr. Michael Chinda, using the mace at the floor of the Rivers State House of Assembly during a rowdy session in 2014, a case which was later withdrawn by the state government.

Why has there not been a holistic approach to the soot menace in Portharcourt?

The soot menace in Portharcourt has become too damaging for the silence it has earned in some quarters. Residents complain daily on radio and social media about how the soot has become an everyday threat to their survival.

On the surface, their complaints seem much like the howling of a people desperate for attention. However, one needs to see the number of children lying in hospital beds due to breathing difficulties to understand that there is bound to be a wide-scale tragedy if adequate measures are not put in place and urgently too.

The Rivers State government through the ministry of health has in time past, outlined measures that the government has taken to mitigate the sooth disaster, but it is safe to say that the measures are not enough and much more needs to be done.

The side effect of this disaster might result in a disease outbreak of epidemic proportion, shorter lifespan and mass death among residents of the Town.

The people should be given the benefits of doubt that government can rise up and tackle life-threatening issues like the soot menace. What the people have seen from the government are loads of theories with little efforts put in place.

Residents now sleep with nose masks on. Air condition filters are clogged with dark soot and you wonder how much of it has gotten into human breathing systems.

The federal ministry of environment seems to play deaf over this issue. If the federal government lay claims to oil and gas resources of this region, it should, without recourse to being asked, lay claims to this soot disaster and own the struggle for a cleaner environment in Portharcourt.

Government is there to protect the people during such disaster and not abandon them to their fate. The Rivers State Government and the Federal Government through the Ministry of Environment to should work together with stakeholders to bring this issue under control.

The federal government should pressure the military to stand down all their anti-bunkering activities and perchance for burning down modular refineries in the creeks and find another method to it. The outcome is the black soot menace.

Oil companies operating in the region should also be forced to use an alternative source of production. The atmosphere is saturated.

You see the passengers we have today, we have them in different ways. What I mean is that we have three types of drivers and also three types of passengers.

For example, as a driver, you must have the three basic qualities of being a commercial driver. These qualities are: tolerance, politeness and endurance.

As a driver too, you should know that we have three types of passengers. The three types of passengers are: the problematic personalities, the destructive personalities and the progressive personalities.

Problematic Personalities.

For example, this season comes with a scarcity of passengers. We call it passengers season. When there are more of passengers, we call it drivers season.
If you want to talk about the problematic personalities, when they enter a vehicle or a loading taxi like when a driver is loading and it remains a chance for that driver to finish his loading, you will see most of these girls known as problematic personality come with their britico-Nigerian intonation because they have them in different types.

Now, see: “Oga driver, how many una dy carry for back now”
“How much una dy collect from here to Choba?”

“Hey, this 250 too much o. Abeg now ”

Drive will reply” Sister, na so we dy collect am”

At this point, the girl will scream: ” Jesus! What have I done to deserve this. You can’t call me Ashawo like that. My parents are not prostitutes. Why do this to me? Oh God!”

Before you know it, she will start dragging the driver’s clothes and from there, all these dignitaries with expensive vehicles you see driving about will come. They are always emotionally electrocuted when it comes to girls.

They will start to park by the sides and before you know it, a lot of people have come for enquiry.
Before you know it, the people will say “Driver, what is the problem. What is happening between you and this girl?”

The driver will say: “Ah” and maybe that driver happens to be a Yoruba man. Yorubas are majority in the transport system here.

He will say: “Ah, Oga no vex o. The time wey the girl come. I dy go Choba……

The dignitaries will say: ” Hey, wait, wait, ladies before gentlemen. Let the girl speak first”

The dignitaries will say “Ya! Baby, what happened?”

You see these girls, they always cry with what we call “Uncompletable tears and statements”

Their statements will not be complete and their tears will be as if they have been beaten for a long time.
Before you know it, she will say: “Good day sir, I entered this taxi heading to Choba and I asked this driver how much do you carry at the back. Before I know it, oh Jesus!!!!!” And she will start crying.

The driver will say “Oga, make I talk the one wey happen o” but the dignitaries will not listen.

He will say: “Do you know that this girl you see here can be a mother tomorrow? Do you know that these are the future mothers of tomorrow and you are insulting her?”

The driver will say: “Oga, make I talk the one wey happen……”

You will hear: “My friend, keep quiet. You want me to imprison you? Do you know the gravity of offence you just committed? How can you look at a little girl like this and……”

“Ha, Oga, wetin I do o. I no do anything o. Ah! From Osun state wey me I come here come dy drive taxi o. Everybody know say me I no dy find trouble o.”

Before you know it, the driver is arrested and taken to the police station because he doesn’t have the three qualities of being a commercial driver.

10 feared dead in Eleme bus fire.

About 10 passengers were feared dead when fire engulfed a Toyota 18 seaters commercial bus ferrying over 14 passengers from Akwa Ibom to Port Harcourt at the popular Eleme refinery junction in Eleme, Rivers State, on Saturday.

TPCN correspondent gathered that only the driver and two of the passengers sitting in front of the vehicle escaped but were seriously burnt.

Rescuers were seen at the spot trying to put out the fire which also escalated into nearby buildings.

As at the time of filing this report, the cause of the fire remains unknown and the number of casualties is expected to rise.
