The Rivers State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Rilwan Disiu, has announced the deployment of adequate security measures for the 64th Independence Day celebration on October 1, 2024.

Amid concerns surrounding the “October 1 Nationwide Protest” tagged #FearlessInOctober, the Command wishes to inform the public that it is fully aware of the planned demonstration.

Residents are strongly advised to refrain from participating in any activities that may disrupt public order or infringe upon the rights of law-abiding citizens in the state.

The Command emphasizes the need to maintain the peace currently enjoyed across Rivers State, noting that protests, in recent times, have been exploited by criminal elements seeking to cause unrest, often resulting in unfortunate incidents.

To ensure the safety of all residents and protect public order, the Commissioner of Police has deployed officers to strategic locations across the state. These measures aim to safeguard lives and property, facilitate the free movement of vehicles, and prevent any threats to law and order.

Parents and guardians are urged to counsel their children and wards against joining the protest. The police will take all necessary and lawful actions to prevent any breakdown of public order.

The Rivers State Police Command encourages residents to go about their lawful activities, with the assurance that comprehensive security arrangements are in place for their protection.
