Premier League side Manchester United on Wednesday, announced that seven players have left the club. They underwhelming forward Anthony Martial and Raphael Varane, who departed at the end of their contracts. United released their retained list to confirm the future of certain players. Martial and Varane already bid an emotional farewell to Old Trafford on the penultimate match of the season. Joining them out of the exit door is academy graduate Brandon Williams. The defender spent last season on loan with Ipswich. Fellow academy graduates Charlie McNeill, Marcus Lawrence, and Kie Plumley are all set to leave.
Veteran midfielder, Tom Huddlestone, is also leaving. The 37-year-old moved to Old Trafford in August 2022 to act as a player-coach for the Red Devils’ U-21 side.
Jonny Evans and Tom Heaton are in talks over possible new contracts.
On the other hand, Chelsea has already made their own move.
Three players will leave us at the end of their contracts on June 30. The most notable is Thiago Silva, who said a heartfelt goodbye to Chelsea supporters after our final home game of the Premier League season, Chelsea said on their website.
The Brazilian defender arrived at Chelsea in the summer of 2020 and won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup during his four seasons at Stamford Bridge. A return to his homeland with Fluminense has already been agreed.
Josh Brooking will also depart at the end of his contract. Josh joined us during the 2018/19 season from Reading and featured regularly for our Under-18s and Under-21s during his time with the club.
Also at the Academy level, second-year scholar Noah Hay will leave at the end of this month. A contract offer has been extended to Samuel Rak-Sakyi.
