After the cancellation of the negotiation of the National Minimum Wage (NMW) and the labour negotiation, 2 State Assemblies intervened on 24 June The organized labour group announced a national strike on Monday, June 3, 2024, to bring back their demands.
In the interest of the States, the Federal Government convened a meeting with the Labor Party at the Cabinet Secretary’s office on Monday, June 3, to end the strike.
After due consideration and commitment from both parties, the following decisions were reached: The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces committed to a national minimum wage of over N60,000; II. As a result of the above, the tripartite commission will meet every day next week to arrive at an agreed national minimum wage; III. In the high regard of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces undertakes to immediately convene a meeting of his organs to discuss this undertaking; IV. No employee would be made a victim of industrial action.
