Only female president can bring peace to Nigeria – NGO

By Brave Dickson

As the world commemorates the International Day of Peace, an advocacy NGO for women has said that only a female president which Nigeria has never had can bring peace to the country.

Speaking with our correspondent, the Executive Director of Women Initiative for Values Empowerment and Sustainability International (WIVES INT’L), Amb. Tonbra Kasikoro KilopirIte maintained that women love peace more than men.

She said: “The world is celebrating the International Day of Peace because of its importance on human survival.

“Women have been clamoring for inclusion where we will be given our space in the society. It is believed that the world is in a state of chaos and the only way out is peace.

“And women have been the vanguard of peace in homes and communities. While it is true that war is not the absence of peace but the absence of justice, women stand for that needed justice than men and only a female president can bring peace to Nigeria.”

Each year, the International Day of Peace (IDP) is observed around the world on 21 September.

The UN General Assembly had declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire.

This year’s theme is ‘Actions for Peace: Our Ambition for the #GlobalGoals.’ It is a call to action that recognizes our individual and collective responsibility to foster peace.

Fostering peace contributes to the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals will create a culture of peace for all.

United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres said, “Peace is needed today more than ever. War and conflict are unleashing devastation, poverty, and hunger, and driving tens of millions of people from their homes.
