Gunmen Kill driver, passenger In Ahoada West

By Tina Amanda

Two persons were shot dead by gunmen suspected to be cultists, along Ubeta Owube Road, Ahoada West local government area of the state, on Saturday night, June 24, 2023.

According to a source, the gunmen ambushed and shot the driver and the passenger dead while conveying building materials to the Owube community in Ahoada West.

In an interview with our Correspondent, a native of the Ubarama community in Ahoada West, who is also a former Community Development Chairman (CDC), Major Elleh, said that the two people were killed in a neighbouring community about one (1) kilometre drive to his community.

“I got reliable information on June 24 night that the two guys were shot dead in Owube community. One of the persons shot dead is Confidence Chalikobi, who happens to live in Port Harcourt.

“His father’s house was destroyed during the flood. He bought some building materials for the repair of the house. On his way to his community, he was gunned down by these hoodlums, and the other person, the driver of the vehicle from Elemechi Ogbogu, all in the Owube community.

“I call on stakeholders and the LGA Chairman to support the new Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ahoada West and other security agencies in the area to clamp down on criminal elements”.

The Commissioner of Police Rivers State, a few days upon assumption of office, redeployed Divisional Police Officers of Akinima Police Division and Ahoada Police Division in Ahoada West and East LGAs, respectively and brought in two new DPOs, as a strategy to curb activities of cultists and other criminalities in the area.

The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe Koko, confirmed the incident stating that the investigation is ongoing.
