Ayu will not resign – Maeba

Lee Maeba, a Chieftain of the the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Rivers State says the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu must not resign.

Ayu’s resignation is one of the demands from the camp of Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike for a peaceful resolution of the crisis within the party.

Ayu was said to have “promised to resign” his position if the presidential candidate of the PDP emerges from the North.

But he has been quoted recently as saying he won’t to step down, insisting that he has “a four year mandate”.

Maeba, a loyalist of Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential candidate of the party who spoke on Arise TV on Friday, said since the new chairman of the PDP can only emerge through a mini-convention, the party cannot afford to start organizing a convention six months to the general elections.

He explained that the arrangement of the PDP is to have a National Chairman from the [HM1] South if the President is from the North and vice versa.

According to him “the arrangement is that the chairman cannot come from the same zone as the president.

“When Yar’adua emerged as the president of Nigeria, Ali resigned and there was a reshuffling.

“Because this reshuffling even calls for a mini convention and if you ask me, will any sincere party man who wants the party to win the election be demanding for a convention at this time, in the middle of the election? “My answer will be no.’’’

“The common convention is that the president and the chairman cannot come from the same zone”.
