Three suspected kidnappers have reportedly been killed by a joint security team, comprising the army, police and vigilante along the Benin-Ekpoma road, Edo State.
The suspects were killed on Wednesday at Okhuo, in the Uhunmwode Local Government Area of the state after they had allegedly taken over the busy highway on Tuesday morning.
They were, however, driven into the forest by the security operatives who engaged them in a gun duel, leaving travellers stranded for several hours.
It was gathered that security operatives neutralised the hoodlums after they laid siege on the highway again on Wednesday to ambush travellers plying the road.
Three of the suspected kidnappers were killed, while others escaped with gunshot injuries into the forest.
Confirming the incident, the Spokesman of the Edo State Police Command, SP Kontongs Bello, said, “Nobody was kidnapped. One person, a young man driving Lexus 350, was hit in his car in his shoulder.
“Meanwhile, today (Wednesday), the hoodlums came out again, and three of them were gunned down by the combined team of the police, military and vigilante. Edo must be safe,” Bello said.
