Fishermen lament incessant attacks by pirates in Andoni

Fishermen at Oyorokoto fishing settlement in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State have raised alarm over the increase in attacks by sea pirates.

This recent attacks come barely a month after the Andoni Council Chairman, Mr Erastus Awortu and the Andoni Area Traditional Rulers Council resolved the conflict between the rival cult groups in the Area.

Some of the fishermen who spoke to our Correspondent said their source of livelihood is threatened as their safety is not guaranteed.

They appealed to the state and local government to provide a security patrol surveillance boat to stem the tide of sea pirates.

Speaking also, some affected women of the settlement lamented that they can no longer buy and sell their sea food as a result of the attacks .

When contacted, the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer Mr Nnamdi Omoni ,said he was yet to be informed on the incident.
