The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have welcomed their second baby, Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor born on Friday morning in Santa Barbara, California.
This was contained in a statement released by the Duke and Duchess, stating that both mother and child are healthy and well.
The couple revealed that they named their baby girl Lilibet after the Royal Family’s nickname for the Queen, the baby’s great-grandmother.
Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honour her “beloved late grandmother”, the Princess of Wales, the statement said.
In a tweet by the royal household, they stated how delightful the Queen is.
“Congratulations to The Duke and Duchess of Sussex on the birth of Lilibet Diana! The Queen, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall and The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted with the news. Lilibet is Her Majesty’s 11th great-grandchild.”
Other royal family members, including Prince Harry’s father, Prince Charles; his brother, Prince Williams have since reacted to the news, congratulating the couple.
In a message of thanks, the couple said: “On June 4, we were blessed with the arrival of our daughter, Lili.
“She is more than we could have ever imagined, and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we’ve felt from across the globe.
“Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this very special time for our family.”
Prince Harry and Meghan got married in May 2018 after which they welcomed their first child, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor a year later.
Lilibet is the Queen’s 11th great-grandchild and eighth in line to the throne.
