Police accuse IPOB of killing officers in Cross River

Less than two weeks after four police officers were killed by unknown gunmen at the Idungdung Checkpoint in the Calabar Municipality Area Council, the Police say another two officers were killed in Obubra.

Irene Ugbo, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer said two rifles were also taken away by the criminals.

One of the officers is said to be lying critically injured at an undisclosed medical facility.

Ugbo said that based on the information gathered, the killers were shouting IPOB slogans when they approached the checkpoint before they opened fire on the policemen.

She said they made attempt to burn down Nko Police Station but were repelled by the police operatives on duty.

It was also gathered that a military checkpoint along the Obubra highway was also attacked where one of the soldiers was killed.

The PPRO said, the Police Commissioner, Sikiru Akande, has deployed mobile policemen to comb the affected areas.

He has assured that investigation is ongoing and will be made public once it has been completed.
