NAWOJ Rivers gets new executives

Susan Serekara Nwikhana has been elected as the Rivers State Chairman of Nigeria Association of Women Journalist, NAWOJ.

Her election held at the just concluded 7th Triennial Delegates Conference at the Nigerian Union of Journalist, NUJ, Press Centre, Port Harcourt.

She emerged winner for the NAWOJ Chairmanship position with a total of ninety-two (92) votes, defeating her opponent, Joy Grant-Amadi who scored a total of forty-six (46) votes.

The Vice-chairperson, Daba Benebo emerged with 75 votes, while her contender Sele Aso got 61 votes.

Other executives are Doris Tam Morrison as Secretary, Ngozi Anosike as Assistant Secretary and Beauty David Nteugot as Treasurer.

After declaring the result, the NAWOJ Vice President Zone F, Uduak Ikang Obeten-Okon, who oversaw the conduct of the election, urged the newly elected executive to carry every journalist in the state along and uphold the aim and objective of the association.

In an interview with our correspondent, shortly after the election, Susan Serekara Nwikhana, called on all NAWOJIANS in the state to partner with the new Executive to change the NAWOJ narrative for the better and even development.

She however pledged her full commitment in piloting the affairs of the union, while assuring to move the association to a greater height with a focus on women involvement in politics, advocate on women and girl child right.

Meanwhile, Some Women Stakeholders in the media have urged the newly elected Executive, Nigeria Association of Women Journalist Rivers State, to work in the oneness of purpose and ensure all women journalists old and young are carried along.

They emphasized that NAWOJ as an association cannot grow beyond what it is today if the spirit of unity and togetherness is not maintained.

They however advised the EXCO to organize programmes that all NAWOJIANS will be inclusive in active participation.

They further urged the newly elected Executive to shun all forms of disparities that may lead to inequality amongst members, as every one member is important and equal to another.
