Reactions are trailing the operation pattern of the reconstituted Taskforce on Illegal Motor Parks and Street Trading, days after it began.
Some motorists and traders who spoke with our correspondent advocated for proper training of staff of the reconstituted Taskforce on how to carry out their duties to avoid resurgence of traits of the disbanded team.
They also stressed the need for the State government to employ more of graduates into the taskforce, rather than recruiting touts with no formal education or training.
The respondents also appealed to the government to enact laws that will guide the operations of the team and prosecute any member who flouts the law.
According to them, the initiative of the state government to constitute Taskforce to regulate operations of vehicle operators and illegal street traders is a good idea, but the people employed to do the work abuse their job specification.
Others, however, opposed the reconstitution of the taskforce following their bitter experiences in the hands of the previous team.
Some of the Respondents lamented that the former disbanded Taskforce team in the state were mostly cultists and criminals with no human sympathy, who used the opportunity to extort from people.
The traders expressed sadness that their goods worth reasonable amount where destroyed and carted away by the acclaimed Taskforce, as most traders were left handicap after such experience.
The Respondents further said that the Taskforce team intentionally set traps for motorist in order to collect bribe and dislodge them of their earnings for the day, stressing that the reconstituted Taskforce will not be different from the former.
They lamented that the Taskforce team made the lives of motorist and traders a living hell in the State, as they were working for their selfish interest rather than do the job they were employed for.
They urged government to disband Taskforce totally or ensure that the new reconstituted Taskforce Team will be given adequate training on how to conduct themselves with respect while dealing with the masses.
