A horrible drama took place at Mbgbuoba Market, along NTA Road, Port Harcourt, over the weekend when a woman in menstruation period used her stained sanitary pad to rub a man on his face.
TPCN gathered from eye witnesses at the market that trouble started when the middle-aged man, identified as Onyema, started taunting the woman with some expensive jokes until the woman, said to be in her early 50s, got angry, accosted him and a quarrel ensued between them.
However, to further provoke the woman, Onyema, whom the eye witness said is a known trouble maker and drunkard, mocked the woman by telling her that she should be ashamed that she has only clocked 50 years and no longer sees her menstruation period.
“On hearing that, the woman just opened her trouser and brought out her menstruation pad and rubbed it on Onyema’s face, with the blood. She then put the pad back in her trouser. Everybody shouted whoooo… and started laughing at Onyema. Market people were very happy, especially the women, because Onyema used to worry them every day,” the eye witness narrated.
Asked how Onyema reacted when the woman rubbed him with the menstruation pad, the eye witness said: “He didn’t do anything o. He knows that people in the market are not happy with him. Shame catch am now. Even his wife is not happy with him because he used to worry her too. Can you imagine this man went and sold their big foam to Aboki (young male low class Hausa hustler/petty trader) for N500 without telling his wife? He even drove his wife out of their house and while he was sleeping in that house, fire burned the house. The other day, he went and called somebody to come and buy their sumo; if not for his wife that stopped him he would have sold. This Onyema is a landlord o… and whenever a tenant rents the house and pays him money, he will start maltreating his wife, as in, he will just be misbehaving, drinking and, you know – he’s just like that.
“Everybody in this market knows he’s a very stupid man. Now, look at what that woman did to him; na wetin fit am sef.”
Asked how both Onyema and the woman could be reached, the eye witness told TPCN: “The woman used to sell in this market but I don’t think she’s around now because I’ve not seen her since I came. If she’s around you will see her because she used to walk around too. As for Onyema, his house is just there, that one there; that’s why he’s always coming here to disturb people because his house is close to the market. It’s like this market is part of their compound.”
When TPCN went inside the compound, which is congested with bungalows, to ask of Onyema, nobody seemed to know where he was. The few who responded, reluctantly replied: “I don’t know him.”
Their cold responses lent credence to the suspicion that people around the place may not want to identify with him again, perhaps because of his character.
TPCN also gathered that since the incident, the said Onyema has been avoiding the Mgbuoba Market.
