Operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Monitoring Unit in Aluu Community, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers state, have apprehended one John Ede for defrauding a young lady in Port Harcourt.

Ede who hails from Benue state is said to have faked his name as Captain Hope with the intention of luring and befriending the victim, in order to dispose her off her valuables.

The fraudster who admitted to the crime of stealing the victim’s car, iPhones, documents and other valuables during his confessional statement at the office of the IGP Aluu, begged for mercy, describing it as the devil’s work.

Ede pleaded with the Operatives of the IGP Monitoring Unit to tamper justice with mercy, claiming he committed the crime to enrich himself and to satisfy his ego.

According to him, he met the lady in a hotel and they exchange phone contact. After several chats on phone, the victim accepted to be his girlfriend.

“When she agreed to be my girlfriend, we started spending time together, sometimes in her house while other time in hotel rooms.

“One of the night she complained of the house not being too conducive, so we lodged into Larritel Hotel located at Mgbuoba NTA Road in Obio Akpor local government area, that night I gave something to take and she slept off.

“I made away with her car, Lexus X 350, iPhones and the car original document which I took from her wardrobe to Benue state. When I got to Benue I changed the car plate number.
