Rivers State Police Command has arrested a 38- years- old Uchenna Onyegbele Tobias for allegedly defiling his three daughters aged two, five and ten years old respectively.

Uchenna Onyegbele Tobias who hails from Imo State was arrested with the help of Elekahia youths and he is currently being detained at the Elekahia Police Station.

Narrating the ordeal to Newsmen in Port Harcourt, wife of the suspect, Mrs Christiana Tobias said her husband had on several occasions beat and threatened to kill her when she discovered the act and confronted him for defiling their daughters.

According to her, the last incident happened in the month of May 2020, when she went to the market and instructed her ten-year-old daughter to bath the young one who is five years old, but her female neighbour opted to bath the girl instead, and in the process noticed penetration and injury on the girl’s private part.

She said on her arrival, the neighbour informed her and they took the girl to the hospital for medical examination and it was confirmed that she had been defiled.

She explained that her husband has been on the run until his arrest, on realizing she is aware of his latest crime on their five-year-old daughter.

“In the year 2012 while we were in the village then, I caught my husband using his finger to penetrate my first daughter who was two years old then, I raised an alarm, my husband and his mother beat me up, threatening that I want to spoil their family name. The village women also cautioned me not to mention it to anyone as it is an abomination.

“In 2017 I also caught my husband using his finger to penetrate our two years old daughter. I reported him to the Police and my husband was later granted bail, I declined to follow up the case due to pressure from some quarters, he threatened to send thugs after me. I left the house with my children and went to live with my elder sister at Oyigbo.

“After six months he located us at Oyigbo, he pleaded for my forgiveness, professing that he is a changed man. I forgave him and we came back to live together in Port Harcourt, little did I know he has not repented”

The mother of four children is, however, demanding for the Prosecution of her husband for constantly defiling their children, adding that her life is in danger should he be released again.

“I want him to be prosecuted and brought to book, my life is not safe if the Police release him the same way they have been releasing him. I would not know his next line of action because he has virtually sold all the properties in the house”

Meanwhile, Civil Right Activist, Comrade Otobo Dennis, said on receipt of the complaint, he informed the community Youth President of Elekahia, Port Harcourt for close monitoring of the suspect.

He noted that the arrest of the suspect was following credible information which he and the Elekahia Youths mobilised and apprehended Uchenna Onyegbele Tobias and handed him over to the Police.

The spokesperson of Rivers State Police Command SP Omoni Nnamdi is yet to respond to enquiries after a series of phone calls and text messages have been sent to his mobile phone.
