Some indigenes of Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State have accused the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the LGA, Mr Cletus Omoke of destroying their houses as well as beaten up their wives.

The affected indigenes who narrated their ordeals to our correspondent in separate interviews said their properties were also carted away by the police.

According to the Youth President of Nweol Community in the LGA, Tuka Oolee: “The Kpor police station DPO, Mr Cletus Omoke came to my Nweol community to arrest a notorious cultist, Baribor Porogbara and the cultist escaped the DPO’s arrest.

“The DPO arrested the cultist’s mother and father and further arrested two young men he suspected to be cultists.

“Later, the DPO released the mother and father of the escaped notorious cultist.

“The DPO at another date, came to my community again with about three vans and branched my father’s compound and set our house on fire.

“The police also went away with our generator set, fridge, lady’s motorcycle and as I speak with you, these items are still with the police.

“I called the DPO and asked him why he set my family house ablaze, he warned me never to call him again.

“I know how I have regularly been giving money to the DPO for logistics to flush cultists from my community.

“It should also be on record that the DPO collected between N50,000 to N100,000 before bailing all those he arrested and only the notorious cultist’s parents he released for free without collecting any Kobo.”

Another victim, Anthony Baadom of Nwebiara Community in the LGA said: “On Saturday at about 6.30 am, some security agents led by the Kpor DPO invaded my house and asked me to bring all the boys working with me.

“I said I don’t have anybody working with me and the security agents asked me to follow them which I did and they later asked me to go back.

“They went ahead to destroy my windows, doors and as I speak now, I can’t sleep in my house because of the way they destroyed it.

“As if that wasn’t enough, the security personnel went ahead and beat up my late younger brother’s wife.”

When contacted, the DPO, Omoke said: “Again, let me remind you that no matter the amount of cheap blackmail, cultism and other incidental vices shall have no hiding places and must be flushed out at all cost no matter whose ox is gored.”
