One forty-seven-year-old man, Mahmud Eromosele Rilwal has been arraigned before a Magistrate Court sitting in Port Harcourt, for impregnating his sixteen years old daughter.

Rilwal was arrested last week with the help of the Rivers State Ministry of Social Welfare and Doctors Without Borders for bedding his teenage daughter.

He was said to have committed the offence at Wike street in Oyigbo local government area on 14th February 2020, and other days and in a different location at number 25. Amahule street Eliozu Port Harcourt.

According to him: “I have no reason to deny that I am responsible for what happened. It’s unfortunate, but it’s a battle I have tried to fight over the years. It seems a battle that is bigger than me.

“Even my daughter, what is involved in her too I can’t tell. It seems a kind of spiritual issue. No police came up to arrest me. I turned in myself because I felt it has become too much for me to bear.

“If my going to prison is the only way my daughter can be liberated, I am relieved. If this is the only way to liberate her, good and fine. I am relieved I can come out to speak the truth.”

Police Public Relations Officer, Rivers Command, Nnamdi Omoni had said the Command would prosecute the suspect for incest.

The Defendant faces two-count charge bordering on unlawful carnal knowledge and assault, which are punishable offences under section 221, CAP C38 and section 222 CAP C38 of the criminal code Vol.2 Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria, 2004.

Rilwal was granted bail by Chief Magistrate Amadi-Nna, and the case was adjourned to 26th August 2020 for hearing.
