Covid-19: Bayelsa introduces guidelines for Churches

Bayelsa State Task Force on Covid-19 has introduced new guidelines for churches as part of measures to contain the spread of the pandemic in the state.

The new guidelines were announced by the Governor, Senator Douye Diri during a meeting with the leadership of the church and members of the task force.

Thè guidelines include the suspension of weekly church activities except Sunday worships, banning of all home cells and churches ensuring the availability of soap and running water in their premises for hand washing. They should also ensure the provision of alcohol-based sanitizers.

Others include restriction of all Sunday services between 7 am to 1 pm; all churches with multiple services should observe 30 minutes in between services to avoid clustering; Sitting arrangements should have 2 metres or 6 feet spacing; Each service should not exceed an hour; Use of face masks by worshippers is compulsory; Megachurches should have monitoring teams to complement efforts of the state task force.
