Assassins murder traditional ruler in Rivers community

The body of Chief Friday Kpaabel from Kpoo community in Gokana local government area of Rivers State who was murdered on Friday 20th March 2020, by unknown gunmen terrorizing Gokana has been found along Yege-Kpopie road.

Our correspondent gathered that Chief Friday Kpaabel left his residential area of Bori in Khana local government area on Friday 20th to attend a function at Gokana and was assassinated on his way back to Bori along the boundary between Kpopie-Bori road.

The body of the chief was found lying lifeless in his own pool of blood with gunshots on his ear by security operatives and some indigenes of the community.

Speaking on the development, Eenyie Kpaabel-Friday, son to the deceased, who confirmed the death of his father, said his father could have been murdered following the crisis that have been rocking the community since 2015.

“There has been Paramount rulership crisis in Kpoo community to the best of my knowledge. Chief Kpaabel-Friday has been a peaceful man always advocating for peace and progress of the community, he has been in the council since 1999, he has not done anything wrong neither has he had plans to hurt anybody because I know the murderers came from the community”.

He appealed to the state government to investigate and prosecute the killers of his father and several other murders taking place in Gokana on a daily basis.

“I am using this opportunity to call on the state government, His Excellency Governor Nyesom Wike, Commissioner of Police, the Military and everybody to investigate and get to the root of this matter.

“This is one of the too many incidents of killing that have been happening in Gokana since 2015, they should give close attention to what is happening in the local government, Gokana is not safe and it’s insecure”
