Organized Labour calls for removal of Rivers Head of Service

The Organized Labour in Rivers state has called for the removal of the head of service, Rufus Godwins, to pave away for career and progression in the public service.

The Chairman of the Rivers State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress, BEATRICE ITUBO who spoke on behalf of the unions after a joint meeting of the NLC and the Trade Union Congress in Port Harcourt, said all contract appointments in the public service should be terminated.

She reiterated the of the union’s readiness to commence an indefinite strike from Monday 23rd of March 2020, if the state government fails to meet up with its demands.

ITUBO identified some of the demands of the union which include; the payment of the National Minimum Wage and arrears; implementation of promotions; implementation of annual increments; payment of pensions and gratuity to retirees, and payment of death benefits.

Others are restructuring of the state secretariat complex, proper funding of tertiary Institutions, reviving of local government pension board amongst others.

The Labour Union also accused the current administration in the state of paying less attention to the welfare of workers.

Recall that the state secretariat of the NLC which was sealed by the state government for evaluation has remained sealed.
