CRC inaugurates new chapter in Rivers State

The National Chairman of Civil Right Council, Barr. Aruchukwu has urged members of the Ohio Akpor chapter of the organization to be curtailed when intervening in human right issues in the area.

Barr. Aruchukwu made this call while inaugurating the Ohio Akpor branch of Civil Rights Council in Port Harcourt on Thursday.

He said the purpose of the movement is to see how “we can fight oppression in society. It is clear that a lot of people have nobody to fight for them.

“The current crisis in Nigeria has made it imperative that everybody should fight for themselves. It is based on this that Civil Rights Council (CRC) was born, a community-based organization.

“CRC does not only educate and inform the citizens, but we also aid in advocating and protecting the rights of our citizens.
So far, the good impact is being made, the organization must be decentralised, it must be mass-based.

He said CRC has gotten to where it is today because of dedication, and of cause, nobody is working for money.

“When you confront the system as a group, the system respects you than when you confront the system as an individual,” he said.

He urged members of the new chapter to bring your wealth of experience in intervening in human right issues.

“Discretion and wisdom are required in this organization because you must be alive to do the work. Try as much as possible to make your presence be felt in Obio Akpor”

Also speaking at the inauguration, the National Secretary of CRC, Comrade Isaac Green said “it will not be easy as you have seen, for you to succeed in this line you must heed to advise as been given by the state chairman. You must work with wisdom.

“Take it seriously, it will pave way for you in any of your endeavours. Our presence is not felt in Obio Akpor. Whenever you need our help do not hesitate to approach us. Have it in mind that it will not be very easy to thrive”

On his part, Comrade Kpalap Sabastian, Port Harcourt City Local Government Leader of CRC said ” what you are here today for is one cardinal responsibility you own humanity.

“You have an enormous responsibility in your hands. It is a responsibility that you must not wait for others to do. CRC in other states have succeeded today because of heir dedication, that is the same way I expect you to do in Obio Akpor”

Meanwhile, Comrade Wiro, the Rivers State chairman of CRC has charged the newly inaugurated exco of the Obio Akpor branch of CRC to be up and doing, adding that they need to have credibility in everything they are doing.

He also asked them to have the determination to enthrone human right advocacy in their respective domain.

Also, the newly inaugurated chairman of the Obio Akpor branch of Civil Right Council, Comrade Ojinike Nathaniel promised to use his office in synergy with other members of his exco to influence the society especially residents in Obio Akpor local government area.

“Let the society know that there are people who are available to speak for them. So within our jurisdiction, which is the Obio Akpor local government area, we must make sure that we relate to what is there. We have to make ourselves known to the local government chairman, also make ourselves known to the police in the area and after that, we will also ensure that we relate with other bodies such as community youths and the rest.

“The common man should believe that he has hope and the final judgment is when you have attained your rights as a citizen”
