Following the fatal accident that claimed one life last month on Jointkrama road in Ahoada West Local Government Area (LGA) of Rivers State, the indigenes of the area have vowed to block the road if Shell oil multinational refused to fix the road.

A former Supervisor for Youth, Sports and Culture in Ahoada West LGA, Hon., London Onisosueya who dropped the hint in an interview with our correspondent said notification letters have been written to SHELL, NDDC and Rivers State Government in respect of the bad road.

According to him: “The particular road that is causing the fatal accident is a SHELL access road. The road has a ditch that is responsible for the accidents.

“And we expect SHELL to do something urgent concerning that road after the current leadership of Jointkrama community, officially reported the road to SHELL.

“It was even an erosion that cut off some parts of the road. It is a very dangerous spot for now.

“If that road is not fixed immediately, there will be more fatal accidents on that road because parts of the road want to collapse again.

“We have an interventionist agency too which is NDDC where we had officially reported the matter.

“The road got worse due to the perennial flooding and all the appropriate authorities including the Rivers State Government are aware and we expect them to come and fix the road.

“If nothing is done on the road before July this year, then the road will be completely cut off.

“As law-abiding Jointkrama people of Ahoada, we have written to these authorities and we will still write to them again before blocking SHELl from having access to the road.

“SHELL has a lot of flow stations and cannot access its oil facilities there without the road and we are ready to block it if that road is not fixed.”
