We are not charity organization, HYPREP tells Ogoni PWDs

By Brave Dickson

Heavy protest is expected to hit the office of the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) following comment allegedly made by the agency on the physically challenged community in Ogoni.

The anger of the physically changed group went to boiling point when HYPREP was quoted to have told them that the agency is not a charity organization.

Initially, it was gathered that a successful meeting between HYPREP and the physically challenged group led to a promise that the agency will train and engage some members of the physically challenged community in the Ogoni Clean up exercise.

In a chat with our correspondent, the leader of the group, Comrade Ngo Baridapdoo said they were amazed to hear HYPREP portraying them as charity beggars, vowing that they will storm HYPREP with mass protest in the coming days.

He said: “We wrote to HYPREP and they invited us for a meeting and asked us to wait till when the Project Coordinator returns from travel.

“When the Project Coordinator, Dr Marvin Dekil came back from travel, we called to meet with him only for him to tell us that HYPREP is not a charity organization.

“When we contacted him again on phone, Mr Dekil told us that he is very busy and does not have time for us.

“We informed them of our coming for a protest and the commandant of the agency called us, telling us that we are threatening HYPREP and that if we protest that we will be dealt with.

“We came together to study the reaction of HYPREP towards us and we have resolved to go ahead with our protest after we have written a notification letter to all the security agencies in the state.”
