No meaningful development can be achieved in an atmosphere of rancor – Wordu

A University Don, Dr. Steve Wordu has called on the people of Niger Delta to remain peaceful so as to engender sustainable development of the region.

Dr. Wordu stated this in an interview with newsmen shortly after a Peace and Development summit organized by the non governmental organization, Search For Common Ground in Port Harcourt.

Dr. Wordu who is also a lecturer at the University of Port Harcourt, while advocating for a peaceful coexistence in Niger Delta region said “No meaningful development can be achieved in an atmosphere of rancor and acrimony”

“The summit is basically to deepen the knowledge of peace and resolution in the region to enable security, transparency and accountability in all of the local government administrative of the region”

Earlier, the Rivers state coordinator, Search For Common Ground, Mr. Cosmos Deeneh described Violence as factor for the underdevelopment of society.

Mr. Deeneh who described the theme of the summit as “promoting peace and security as strategy for local governance and development in the Niger Delta” as apt, urged relevant stakeholders of local government administration in Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers State, to provide employment opportunities for the teeming youths with a view to ending agitation in the region.

TPCN correspondent Lorine Emenike reports that the event was graced by serving local government chairmen from Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers states and heads of local government administration, academia and Directors of National Orientation Agency representing the three States and other personalities.
