About 458 non governmental organizations in Rivers State have come together to form a new political group known as “Coalition of PDP Support Groups, Rivers State” to wrestle power from the ruling All Progressives Congress in 2023.
The Chairman of the new coalition, Hon Edwin Ibanichuka (JP) at a meeting in Port Harcourt told our correspondent how the 458 NGOs worked to deliver victory for all the Peoples Democratic Party candidates in the last general elections.
Hon Ibanichuka said: “We are Coalition of PDP Support Groups, Rivers State. This group manifested from the 458 NGOs that worked for PDP during the just concluded general elections.
“During the last general elections, we had the believe that once Alhaji Atiku Abubakar emerges as president, this country would change for good.
“A lot of Atiku-Obi and Wike-Ipalibo groups came up at that time to ensure that PDP wins at the federal and state levels.
“In our different capacities, we worked. Some of our members lost their lives. Just to deliver Atiku, Wike and other PDP candidates here in Rivers State.
“So, Atiku’s failure did not come from Rivers State because we worked tirelessly to make sure all PDP candidates win.
“Now that the 2019 elections are over, we have been working to ensure that we carry the 458 NGOs including the non indigene communities along.
“So, we decided to come together to ensure that we have a formidable structure like this coalition in Rivers State.
“We have gone ahead to establish our branches in each of the local government areas of the state.
“And I believe that by the grace of God, we will move this new coalition to each of the states in Nigeria to ensure that we have a Coalition of PDP Support Groups everywhere.
“Our target is to take power from APC through the ballot box come 2023 and with the pace with which we are moving, we will achieve it.”
Correspondent reports that the new coalition would hold its end of year party on Sunday, December 22 in Port Harcourt, adding that the new group is expected to have PDP bigwigs of all higher status in attendance.
