As part of its desire to ensure effective policing in Rivers State, the state command of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) says it has renovated a lot of deplorable police stations this year.

The state Chairman, PCRC, Chief Casca Ogosu who attributed the feat to all members and divisions of the PCRC also included patrol van purchase and scholarships to indigent police children as part of what they did for the police this year.

He told our correspondent that: “These achievements are the contributions of PCRC members, Rivers State Command and my executive committee. We said we are going to give purposeful leadership which we have achieved.

“We have constantly been on air trying to remind people of the need to assist the police. We have sanitized the people through our advocacy programme on radio, TV and other media.

“I’ am very sure that members of the public have appreciated our activities and we have leveraged on it to improve the relationship between the police and members of the community.

“We have assisted in doing a couple of things for the police because we know that the police have been poorly funded.

“Most of the divisional headquarters of the police have been refurbished by members of the PCRC.

“I can tell you that the building of the Akpajo police division that was very deplorable has been brought back to life and their vehicle was repaired by members of the PCRC.

“The same thing at Rumuokoro where they built a new headquarters’ office for the new area commander.

“In Onne division, they are building a 4-room convenience for the police use. At the OLD GRA Police Command, we have also refurbished the place.

“Foundation laying for a capacity hall has taken place in the Rumulumini axis where the police and PCRC members can stay and hold their meetings and can also be used as a mess at the division level.

“In other areas, we have offered a scholarship to police children who are indigents.

“So far, that is how we have gone for this year and we hope that next year will be better than this year.”
