NPFL match-day one review: MFM FC claims vital away win

The much anticipated Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL kicked-off on Sunday, November 3rd, 2019 with eight games played across different venues.

The match-day one fixtures of the NPFL witnessed five victories (four home wins and one away victory), and three draws.

MFM FC makes the headlines by winning three maximum points on the road against traditional league side Heartland FC of Owerri.

The Lagos based side gave their former manager Fidelis Ilechukwu a Greek gift after handing the coach his first league loss with his new club.

Also, former league champions Plateau United defeated Lobi Stars three one in their league opener while Ifeanyi Ubah made home advantage count with a one-nil victory against Adamawa United in Nnewi.

Wikki Tourists of Bauchi defeated Jigawa Golden Stars two one to secure the three maximum points.

However, Rivers United FC of Port Harcourt played out a goalless draw against Kano Pillars in Kano.

The Port Harcourt based side had defeated Kano Pillars one-nil at the Ahlan pre-season tournament in Kano.

In Asaba, Delta Force played out a goalless draw against Akwa Starlets of Uyo while the game between Warri Wolves and Akwa United ended in a one-all draw.

A total of 15 goals was scored on match-day one of the Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL.

Meanwhile, the games between Enyimba FC and Nasarawa United was postponed due to the involvement of the latter in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Also, Enugu Rangers and Sunshine Stars game were also rescheduled due to the Flying Antelopes involvement in the continental game.

However, Enyimba FC of Aba and Enugu Rangers all qualified to the group phase of the CAF Confederation Cup after defeating their opponents in the play-off stage of the competition.

The Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL will continue on Sunday, November 10, 2019, with match-day two fixtures.
