Ebogoro South indigenes ask Agip to relocate them from exploration site

Residents of Omoku in ONELGA have raised alarm over the devastating effect of GAS Flaring emanating from the facility of an oil multinational currently exploring gas on their environment.

Leader of the affected residents of Omoku, Bright Abali while presenting their petition to the member representing ONELGA Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Christian Ahiakwo, called on the assembly to investigate activities of the oil company.

He said the oil company since it began Gas exploration has failed to settle land owners and farmers affected by the ongoing exploration.

“We the victims of an ongoing exploration activity in Ebogoro South 2 Location in Omoku are calling on the Member Representing ONELGA Constituency 1, Hon. Christian Ahiakwo and members of the RSHA to prevail on Nigerian Agip Oil Company to relocate the affected residents from the location”

The Leader of the Aliigbor Landlords, Bright said the affected delegation was in the assembly to appeal to them to persuade NAOC to settle the owners of the affected houses and relocate them.

Christian Ahiaokwo pleaded with the victims whose houses have cracked and damaged to maintain peace, stressing that the assembly will look into the issues.

NAOC is currently decommissioning an oil/gas well in Ebogoro South 2 location which has affected several houses around the neighborhood since July 2019 till date.
