The third defendant in the murder case involving Ifeanyi Dike, Sergeant Johnbosco Okoroeze has closed his defense during his on-going trial at the court.

Sergeant Johnbosco Okoroeze is standing trial alongside Ifeanyi Dike over the alleged murder of eight-year-old Chikamso Favour.

Johnbosco Okoroeze during his cross-examination at the court said Ifeanyi Dike escaped custody by scaling the fence of the CID premises.

He said he uncuffed Ifeanyi Dike when he was writing his statement but did not handcuff him back after he finished writing his statement.

He said that Ifeanyi Dike escaped from custody when he was trying to take him to his cell.

Johnbosco Okoroeze said that three men were stationed at the gate when IFEANYI DIKE ran away from his cell.

In the meantime, the State Principal Prosecutor Chidi Ekeh while addressing newsmen outside the court said they did their best to prove to the court that Sergeant Johnbosco Okoroeze assisted Ifeanyi Dike to escape custody.

He said the testimony of the former police officer shows that he intentionally assisted Ifeanyi Dike to escape custody or that he was very negligence of his professional duty as a police officer.

Chidi Ekeh pointed out that the evidence presented at the court was enough to prove that Johnbosco Okoroeze assisted Ifeanyi Dike.

Chikwele Bekwe, the lawyer to Sergeant Johnbosco Okoroeze, said they will prepare for their final addresses before the next adjourned date.

He said that they expect the court to discharge and acquit his client after the trial because of the defense they will put up during the final written addresses.

Our correspondent reports that the presiding judge, Justice Adolphus Enebeli adjourned the matter until 18 December 2019.
