Ugochukwu Iwuchukwu

The Nigerian Association of Library and Information Educators NALISE says technology has contributed so much to the series of innovations in library information management.

The Chairman of Nigerian Association of Library and Information Educators, NALISE, Prof UDO NWOKOCHA, said this during the 21st National Conference of the body at the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt.

Prof UDO NWOKOCHA who is also the University Librarian at the Abia State University said technology has simplified Library and Information Management in the country.

He said that they bring librarians together to improve the library practice in Nigeria was in-line with global best practice.

“The idea people were having before the coming of technology was that it will take away peoples jobs but we have seen that rather than affect it adversely it has given it the impetus to what we are doing. Technology, as you hear, is garbage-in garbage-out, computer and other accessories are helpless without human beings. So once you train people like librarians to manage it, that is the only way the computer can perform”.

“Without human beings, without librarians technology, is useless. The computer has nothing to do on its own, a computer is just a mere machine that must be operated, directed and instructed by a librarian. So library and information scientists are being groomed and told what to do with the system, how to manipulate it to get the best out of it. So we need it to make our job better” he said.
