Task force begins clamp down on street traders in Port Harcourt

The Rivers State Task Force against illegal street trading has begun clamping down on illegal street traders in Port Harcourt.

Other Local Government Areas like Obio-Akpor and Eleme also experienced the clampdown by the task force.

Some of the traders who spoke to Theportcitynews correspondent said their goods were seized by the task force in the course of their duty.

They said that the timing of the street clearance was wrong as no alternatives were made for them.

They called on the state government to build new markets which will accommodate them and also make the markets affordable.

Other observers, however, dismissed the brute force being employed by the Bright C.Amewhule-led task force, which they said were improper.

Okazu Powers, a party chieftain said the modus operandi of the Task Force set up by the Rivers State Government is extremely Terrible.

He added that louts are on Rampage in the state
