Government should intervene in Ogoni gang wars – Fingesi

Victor Fingesi, the gubernatorial candidate of the Action Democratic Party in Rivers State, has called for Federal Government’s intervention in the on-going gang war in the oil-rich Ogoniland.

Fingesi, while speaking in Port Harcourt on Thursday, said the killing of people in their communities is saddening.

He regretted that the once-peaceful Ogoniland had turned into a killing field.

He said: “I urge Governor Wike and his government to take the security of life and property, especially in Ogoniland.

“He should direct law enforcement agencies to take specific actions that will guarantee the safety of the people.

‘’It is not enough to just launch a security outfit, and spend money without direct actions, such as curfew where necessary or panel of enquiry and meetings with the chiefs and the people, and then visit the affected areas.

‘’These actions, if considered, will show that the Rivers government is not taking the matter lightly but seriously.

“Only the gathering of a security summit will be a panacea to the insecurity. So, the summit should comprise prominent people from the state, the leaders of cult groups and other groups involved in the breach of peace.”

Fingesi sympathised with the victims and their families, particularly the President of the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP), Chief Legborsi Pyagbara.

Pyagbara’s house was burnt down by the cultists on Tuesday.
