A 40-year-old man known as Godspower Eze was yesterday remanded in prison custody for allegedly raping his wife’s 16-year-old niece who was brought from the village to live with them.
Godspower, it was gathered, had started raping the wife’s niece since she was 10 years old and had threatened to stop her from going to school if she disclosed his acts to anyone.
It was also alleged that the 40year old Godspower had also threatened to insert a screwdriver into her private part should she make his atrocities public.
The matter was brought to court by International Federation of Female Lawyers FIDA in Rivers State who accused him of rape, harassment and threat to life.
Wife of the accused, who has pledged her unalloyed support for her husband had asked FIDA to withdraw the case while accusing her niece of being a spoilt child.
Magistrate F. N Amanze, while remanding the accused called on the police to conduct a thorough investigation and necessary action.
