The election into the board of Rivers State Football Association has been suspended by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) till further notice.
The election, according to a memo by the Electoral Committee of the NFF, was scheduled to hold on Tuesday, the 4th of June.
The election was suspended after a petition signed by China Acheru and Cyril Dumwite was sent to the NFF. Also signatory to the petition were former footballers, Victor Ezeji and Kingsley Olisa who were contestants in the suspended election.
The petitioners urged the NFF to disband “the phantom electoral committee instituted without input of the congress and reinstate the Chris Odogwu led Committee.”
The electoral Committee was instituted by Christopher Green who is the chairman of Rivers FA board.
They accused Green of sacking the electoral committee after election forms had been purchased and screening done.
It was revealed that the NFF wrote to
Christopher Green to furnish them with minutes of the congress meeting that dissolved the Electoral Committee and an attendance register of the meeting which he has failed to comply with for over two weeks.
On Friday, May 31, 2019, a letter from the NFF was sent to the Rivers State FA suspending the electoral process until all outstanding issues were sorted out.
