Army, F-SARS, APC chieftain disregard invitation as Commission of Inquiry ends

The commission of inquiry set up to investigate the violence, killings and other related Acts, matters which occurred during the February 23rd and March 9th election in Rivers State has brought its sitting to an end.

The commission which began its sitting on the May 6, sat for seven days and recorded appearances from twenty witnesses who testified before the panel on their ordeals before, during and after the February 23rd and March 9th election.

Witnessing before the commission, Peoples Democratic Party leader in Ward 8 Buguma, Asari Toru local government, Tamunotonte Horsefall, testified that on March 8th at about 8 pm, unknown thugs invaded his house on his arrival to carry out his primary responsibility as a party chieftain in his ward, adding that the thugs threw dynamites into his building and shot sporadically for four hours which led to the damage of his property.

The lead panellist, Justice Monima Danagogo, while bringing the commission towards the end of the inquiry commended the witnesses and lawyers for their cooperation.

He stressed that the findings, recommendations and sanctions from the panel will be duly tendered to the state government.

Justice Danagogo also appreciated journalists for their splendid coverage on the fact-finding commission.

Our correspondent Tina Amanda reports that F-SARs, Nigerian Army, Chidi Lloyd, Orolosoma Amachree and some others failed to appear before the commission.
