Breaking: Rivers State Government drops murder charges against state APC Chairman

The Rivers state government has dropped all murder charges against the state chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Flag Amachree.

Theportcitynews gathered that the State High Court 2, chaired by Justice J N Akpughunum on Tuesday dropped the charges following the presentation of a Nolly Prosee filed by the state Attorney General Zacheas Adangor through the prosecuting counsel Godwin Obla SAN.

Obla said the State has no interest in the matter and filed to discontinue the case.

According to him: “We drew the Court’s attention to the fact the Honourable Attorney-General of Rivers state pursuant to the powers conferred on him in Section 211 (1) C of the 1999 Constitution as Amended has filed a nolle prosequi in respect of this matter. The Attorney-General of the State decided that he wants to discontinue the matter

“And we have at the consequence of that nolle prosequi moved the court to strike out the charges against the defendant,”

Also, Emenike Ebete, lawyer to Ojukaye Amachree said with this his client has no case to answer.

Amachree was arraigned before a magistrate in Port Harcourt in 2016 for killing one Smart Soberekon during the rerun election in the state.

Political analysts say the move is not unconnected to the olive branch extended by Wike to the leaders of the opposition which was accepted by the APC and other parties in a bid to foster peace and harmony in the state.
