Police rescue alleged child thief from mob in Port Harcourt

A woman alleged to be a child thief was on Sunday rescued from the hands of an angry mob readying to lynch her in Port Harcourt.

The alleged child thief was rescued by Police officers from the Azikiwe Divisional Police headquarters Illabouchi, Mile 2 Diobu, after the baby she was reportedly carrying began behaving funny towards her.

An eyewitness told a TPCN correspondent that the behaviour of the child said to be about 2 years of age attracted passers-by who began questioning her.

The eyewitness said that the woman who could not provide instant answers to questions asked by the mob was luckily rescued by the team of police officers who were patrolling a nearby street.

The rescued woman claimed to be a staff of Nigerian Population Commission, NPC and was recently transferred to Port Harcourt from Abeokuta.

She, together with the baby, were taken to the police station where officers promised to investigate the matter.
